PHS students involved in the Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Concert Band, Flute Ensemble and Chamber Music groups spent Friday 16th - Sunday 18th March in Hanmer Springs on camp. Students from years 9-13 were involved and worked exceptionally hard. Highlights included everybody (staff and helpers included!) participating in a massed choir rehearsal and performance, and the final concert where everyone presented the music that they had been working on. The students devised some great skits for the Saturday night and everyone enjoyed some well deserved relaxation in the pools on Sunday. The music department would like to thank everybody involved in the weekend for helping to make it such a success, and preparations for the 2013 camp are already well under way.

Megan Crosbie, of 9Wld, traveled to Wellington last weekend to compete in the National Spelling Bee. This event was highly competitive and played out with high drama in front of a large audience in Wellington's Circa Theatre. Megan did exceptionally well, finishing at third equal, after stumbling on the word 'emaciated'. We are very proud of Megan's high achievement. It was the result of hours of study and practice with lists of very long and complicated words. Congratulations, Megan!
